New Plaid Cymru Councillor for Y Felinheli
Plaid Cymru won the Felinheli By-election on Thursday July 14, exactly 50 years since Gwynfor Evans won his first seat for the party in Carmarthen.
Councillor Gareth Griffith will be the new Felinheli Coucillor following a spectacular win, securing 93% of the vote, with Andrew Kinsman, Conservative party coming second.
Oddly enough, Gareth Griffith found out a few years ago that he is related to Gwynfor Evans, therefore to win on the same day that he won the first seat for Plaid Cymru 50 years ago made his success even sweeter!
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the people of Felinheli for turning out and to the campaign team and Plaid Cymru’s local and national staff. The victory is even sweeter because of the Gwynfor era celebrations, "explains Gareth Griffith, a lawyer by profession.
"I'm looking forward to starting work as a Councillor since a number of people have already been sharing their concerns with me and asking for help."
According to Plaid Cymru Gwynedd Leader, Councillor Dyfed Edwards: "We welcome Gareth Griffith to Plaid’s team in Gwynedd and look forward to working with him in the weeks and months ahead. He had sweeping success, huge congratulations to him. He will bring new skills to the Plaid Cymru Gwynedd team and we look forward to welcoming him. "
